Covenant Athletics help to develop the player as a whole person. Using athletics and the team concept helps athletes to develop their lives as Christians, allows them the opportunity to learn to work with others, and encourages them to live a healthy life. Covenant team sports allow the athlete to bridge the concept of using his/her strengths while working with others to obtain a goal. One important life lesson that athletics can provide is that the Christian life is about the journey as well as the destination.
The Cougars are looking to build on their 16-3 regular season record and sub state tournament berth from 2009. The Cougars return a strong core of players to this season. Covenant Christian Acadmey is a member of the ICSGA, the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama, and play out of conference games against teams in the GCAA and GISA. The ICSGA's motto is to "Glorify God through Academic Competition". Since the league began in 1993, it has grown to more than 25 schools.
The ICSGA schools participate in a variety of sports including football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, golf, track and other sports where there is sufficient demand. For competition purposes, most sports are divided into regions to minimize traveling distances to games, playoffs, and tournaments. Regional championships are determined leading to state championships through a playoff system. The middle school team plays an independent schedule.
The Cougar Baseball team is committed to the goal of the ICSGA and allows Middle and High School boys to use their athletic abilities for the glory of God. The Varsity Baseball Team is led by Head Coach Skip Argo. The Middle School squad is led by Head Coach Chris Britt. |
